5 things to do in Nairobi

Nairobi-38950

Nairobi is undoubtedly one of Africa’s most popular travel destinations and for good reason too. There’s plenty of amazing things to do in Nairobi and here’s my top 5.

  • Nairobi National Park

How amazing is it to have a national park within the city? Being the only city in the world with this kind of phenomenal is something to write home about. If you love nature and seeing animals in their natural habitat, then this is an activity I highly recommend. You will have a great opportunity to spot the big five; lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros as well as the glorious animals of the savannah in their true element. Mornings are ideal for game drives in my opinion, as you get to watch the sunrise and the animals too.

A game drive will set you back $4.30 for Kenyan citizens, $10.30 for residents and $43 for foreigners. For more details click here.

  • Karen Blixen Museum

Karen Blixen’s life was one filled with adventure in every sense; from her move to Kenya from Denmark as young lady, to her tumultuous marriage, her series of affairs, her writing, her charity causes, her failed marriage, the loss of her true love and her pursuit of happiness. The museum will give you a small glimpse of her life. Karen’s life in Kenya is detailed in her book ‘Out of Africa’ that was adapted into an Academy Award Motion picture with her role portrayed by the talented Meryl Streep.

  • Giraffe Manor and Giraffe Centre

Have you ever wanted to kiss a giraffe? If your answer is yes, I suggest taking a trip to the Giraffe Centre. Not only will you kiss a giraffe, your visit will support the centre’s conservation initiative and promote an agenda that is very important.

For additional information regarding the giraffe centre, visit my post on Giraffe Centre.

  • National Museum of Kenya

If you love history as much as I do, a trip to the museum will be a thrilling experience. This museum is filled with pre-historic artefacts, art and cultural mementos that tell the Kenyan and Africa tales, which will leave you speechless. Great works are housed in this lovely museum.

Dubbed Africa’s most photographed house. This house is home to art from diverse cultures in Africa. It is located on Mombasa Road just a few kilometers from Nairobi.
